Diabetes is becoming more serious, now-a-days. Ignoring diabetes resulted in early deaths of most of the people. Approximately, around 20.8 million people in the United States are suffering with diabetes. Diabetes is a metabolic disease caused in the human body due to the lack of insulin, a hormone used to convert glucose into energy. Based on this lack of insulin, there are three types of diabetes as mentioned by the World Health Organization. These are as follows:
Type-1 Diabetes:
It is also called as Juvenile Diabetes, Insulin Dependent Diabetes or Autoimmune Diabetes. In a person suffering from type-1 diabetes, pancreas is unable to produce insulin at all because these people’s immune system responses against their own beta cells. Therefore, it is called as autoimmune diabetes. Children are also prone to diabetes mellitus. This can be referred to as Juvenile Diabetes. For a diabetes patient, it is possible to lead a normal life with some amount of exercise, regular insulin intake and proper diet plan. Type-1 Diabetes occurs in a person mainly due to the environmental factors like virus, diet or chemicals in people genetically predisposed. In USA, 10-15% people are suffering from type-1 diabetes mellitus. Some of the symptoms of type-1 diabetes are increase urination, increase thirst, increase hunger, blurred vision and weight loss. Diagnosis of a person with type-1 diabetes should be done earlier or else it can sometimes lead to serious medical situations like Diabetic Coma with Kitoacidosis.
Type 2 Diabetes:
It is also called as Non Insulin dependent diabetes Mellitus or Adult-onset diabetes. This has affected most of the people almost 80% of all cases of diabetes. Mostly, it occurs in adults. Two mechanisms occur in this kind of diabetes. These include deficiency of insulin and increase in the resistance of insulin. Insulin resistance means that the body is unable to use the available insulin. This type of diabetes generally occurs due to overweight, obesity, high blood pressure, lack of exercise, and overeating habits. Symptoms of this type of diabetes develop very slowly. These include fatigue, weight loss, increase urination, blurred vision or delay wound healing. Treating this type of diabetes includes exercise, diet control, tablets. Later, insulin injections may also be suggested.
Gestational Diabetes:
Gestational Diabetes refers to diabetes developed in pregnant women. Though they may have normal glucose levels at sometime, there is a possibility of increment in this glucose in the later period. Sometimes Gestational Diabetes may have no symptom. This diabetes occurs due to hormonal imbalance during pregnancy or insufficient Insulin. Children of the women suffering from gestational diabetes can be prone to diabetes in their future. Maintaining normal body weight and being physically active may help prevent development of type 2 diabetes mellitus in a patient of gestational diabetes.
